For more than 40 years, Miami-Dade Parks’ Sea Turtle Conservation Program has helped protect sea turtles and their nesting habitat along Miami-Dade County beaches. The Parks Foundation of Miami-Dade supports the program’s educational outreach through funding partnerships and fiscal sponsorship.
That support has helped bring Sea Turtle-Friendly Lighting exhibits to Deering Estate and community events across Miami-Dade County. The exhibits show how coastal lighting choices can help prevent hatchlings from becoming disoriented on their way to the ocean.
Miami-Dade Parks’ Sea Turtle Conservation team monitors nesting activity along County beaches and works throughout the year to protect sea turtles and educate the community. In 2025, the team monitored more than 700 sea turtle nests and supported the release of approximately 50,000 hatchlings. Sea turtle numbers are a recognized indicator of the health of the world’s oceans.
Through this partnership, Miami-Dade Parks and the Parks Foundation are helping protect sea turtles and engage the community in their conservation.
