Open Spaces
The Miami-Dade County Parks and Open Space System has created a vision that incorporates great public spaces, libraries, museums, schools, government buildings, transit stations and other civic and institutional places. This comprehensive approach offers endless opportunities to create new public spaces for festivals, arts and crafts shows, green markets and other activities that bring communities together.
Natural & Cultural Heritage Places
People love nature, yet some natural lands are not getting the appreciation they deserve. Land conservation programs not only help the environment, they also provide vital areas for research. Open land and conservation areas have a positive effect on the well-being of the entire planet.
Greenways & Trails
Greenways connect people and wildlife to places, to nature, and to each other. As urban open spaces shrink, new recreational options still exist in linear patterns—along utility easements, waterfronts, roadways and other corridors. We’ll use these paths to connect people to parks, and to one another.
Streets
Streets can do more than facilitate the movement of people, vehicles, and goods. Great streets can make broad, meaningful contributions to the quality of urban environments. Achieving that is part of The Parks Foundation’s movement for place making.
Bike Trails
Multiple county departments are collaborating to develop and improve an extensive network of bike trails. We hope these interconnected trails will encourage people to depend less on cars and take advantage of the beautiful outdoors, while getting fit and having fun.
